  • Woodwind and Brass, Summer Rehearsal, 1-4 p.m.
  • Performance at DCI Show in Dekalb, Huskie Stadium, 6-10 p.m.
  • Pre-register for tickets via Band Camp Registration.
July 14 Sunday Drumline and color guard rehearsal, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., NIU Campus
Aug. 15 Thursday Leadership Team Training and move-in (probable)
Aug. 16-23 Friday All members! Probable start to Band Camp. Move in details and daily rehearsal schedule to follow.
Aug. 22 Thursday Stadium rehearsal, 6-9 p.m.
Aug. 23 Friday Band Run (see band camp schedule)
Aug. 26 Monday
  • Semester starts.
  • Winds, brass and percussion meet at regular class time, 4-5:30 p.m. in Music Building.
  • Colorguard and dance are on separate schedules.
  • Rehearse WIU Fight Song
Aug. 28 Wednesday
  • Section Leaders training, 5:30-6:30 p.m., after rehearsal.
  • Prepare for first game!
Aug. 29 Thursday 20 Piece band to perform at Latino Resource Center, noon-1 p.m. Extra players welcome! Wear summer uniform.
Aug. 29 Thursday Full Ensemble, Huskie Stadium, Extended Rehearsal, 6-10 p.m. Wear full uniform!
Aug. 30 Friday Rock tune review at Grassy Knoll, outside Music Building. Fripperies to follow rehearsal!
Aug. 31 Saturday
  • Game Day! NIU vs. WIU.
  • Stadium rehearsal that morning
  • Tailgate parade and postgame. Schedule TBA.
  • Performing part of music for Main Show, no drill.
  • Presidents Reception! (20 piece to BAVC)
Sept. 2 Monday NIU Holiday for Labor Day. No HMB.
Sept. 4 Wednesday
  • Winds, Brass and Guard at practice field.
  • Drumline in 155 with Bret.
Sept. 5 Thursday Extended rehearsal, 6-9 p.m., Huskie Stadium. Prepare for Notre Dame!
Sept. 7 Saturday
  • Game day! NIU vs. Notre Dame, on the road. Schedule TBA.
  • We can only perform during halftime.
  • At halftime, we will perform portions of Pregame music and drill
Sept. 12 Thursday Rehearsal in Huskie Stadium, w/ guest clinician Tim Yontz (working on main show, music and drill)
Sept. 13 Friday HMB off
Sept. 16 Monday Rehearse music for HS Band Day….September, Dream On, Born to be Wild and Buffalo Fight Song
Sept. 20 Friday
  • Rock tune review, Grassy Knoll.
  • Flip folder test for woodwinds and brass
  • Meeting after rehearsal for all Band Guides and Section Leaders
Sept. 21 Saturday
  • Game Day!NIU vs. Buffalo. HS Band Day with 1,500 guests!
  • Stadium rehearsal that morning
  • Tailgate parade and postgame. Schedule TBA.
  • Performing “Rockin’ Out the Hard Way”; September, Dream On, Born to be Wild Missions March, prior to the game NIU Family Weekend
Sept. 22 Sunday HMB to Jonamac
Sept. 26 Thursday
  • Extended Rehearsal, Huskie Stadium.
  • Prepare for Red and Black! 6-10 p.m.
Sept. 27 Friday Recording Session, North 40. Main Show and cadence 4-6 p.m.
Sept. 28 Saturday
  • Red and Black Marching band Competition Main Show.
  • Stadium rehearsal in the morning with guest instructors.
  • Please keep the day open to help run the show, and to perform twice during the day.
  • This is the one and only event with which we need help from family and friends
  • Ask them to volunteer to help run the show from noon-10 p.m.
  • Sign-up link will be available the week before the show.
Sept. 29 Sunday HMB to play at stadium for Corn Classic 10K. 8 a.m. call time. Summer uniform.
Sept. 30 Monday Rehearse Vivir mi Vida, plus UMass Fight Song. Flip folder test for winds and brass.
Oct. 4 Friday
  • Recording Session, Pregame Music, North 40
  • Section Leaders Training after rehearsal, 5:30-6:30 p.m.
  • Prepare for Homecoming!
Oct. 5 Saturday
  • Game Day! NIU vs. UMass.
  • Stadium rehearsal that morning with Steel Band
  • Tailgate parade and postgame. Schedule TBA.
  • Performing Main Show, plus “Vivir Mi Vida” with Steel Band Missions March, prior to the game
Oct. 7 Monday
  • Section Leaders Evaluations (online format)
  • Rehearse Homecoming Music: Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Children of Sanchez, In the Stone
Oct. 11 Friday HMB off
Oct. 14 Monday
  • Learn Visitor fight song (Toledo)
  • Section Leaders Training after rehearsal to discuss evaluations
Oct. 16 Wednesday
  • Rehearsal ends at 5 p.m.
  • Dinner is provided for WS Members.
  • Wind Symphony Concert at 7 p.m. 
Oct. 17 Thursday Perform at Homecoming Rally, Downtown DeKalb Dinner provided. Homecoming parade, followed by Stadium Rehearsal.
Oct. 18 Friday Athletics Hall of Fame Performance at HSC. Full ensemble, full uniform. Schedule TBA
Oct. 19 Saturday
  • Game Day! NIU vs. Toledo.
  • Homecoming Show: Somewhere Over the Rainbow; Children of Sanchez, In the Stone
  • Morning rehearsal with Alumni Band
  • Normal pregame, postgame
  • Missions March, prior to pregame (last one of the season)

  • Please inform your family that your attendance at this game is absolutely mandatory. Plan ahead. Better yet, invite them to attend.
Dec. 2 Monday Band Awards Ceremony at Barsema Alumni and Visitors Center. 8-9:30 p.m. Dress to impress!
Dec. 7 Saturday
  • MAC Championship in Detroit, MI. This game often falls at the very end of the semester.
  • If the team is fortunate enough to qualify, everyone is expected to go! This is always a great trip
  • NFL indoor stadium, national TV and a lot on the line!
