Before Submitting Your Thesis or Dissertation

You are responsible for knowing all of the critical dates and deadlines related to scheduling your defense and submitting your post-defense paper. Be sure to view the Graduate School calendar for critical dates.

Committee Approval

After your thesis or dissertation has been successfully defended, your committee must approve the document for submission to the Graduate School. Sometimes this happens immediately at your defense; other times your committee will request changes or last-minute revisions.

In either case, when the committee agrees that the paper is ready for submission, your director will record that approval on a Results of Oral Defense form. He or she has three days in which to submit the form to the Graduate School.

Self-Check Before Submission

Before you begin the actual submission process, you should check your thesis or dissertation one last time against the Electronic Thesis/Dissertation (ETD) Checklist. Papers that do not conform to the format requirements will not be reviewed by the Graduate School, which may result in stressful delays and possible removal from that term’s graduation list.
